The Men's Basketball team won the 1969-1970 state championship, the only team state championship for the school.
From the late 1990s until the early 2000s King George was dominant in track and field within the battlefield district winning 7 consecutive championships under the leadership of the legendary coach Jim Moyer.
King George High School has won six consecutive Men's district championships and 4 consecutive Women's district titles with the Men's team placing 3rd in the state of Virginia A/AA swimming and diving championships in 2005. The Women's swim team won the district title in 1997, 1998, 2005 and 2008-2011 while the Mens' team has won in 2005 and 2008-2011
The football team dominated the late 90s behind the rushing duo John and Johnathan Parker and the arm of Freddie Brooks. They eventually lost the state championship game to Graham High School in 1996.
The men's varsity baseball team had success in the late 1980s when the Smith brothers played. The team had not had another winning season until 2005 when the Joey Friedman, Battlefield district MVP led team coached by Ed McKinnon ended with a 12-10 record which included a district tournament victory over Caroline High School. The 2005 season was followed by a 9-12 season (2006) behind the arm of Donald Howell who came up a few strikeouts short of establishing a new state strikeout record. Howell finished with 145 strikeouts. Over the next few years, under a new coaching staff the team struggled. In 2010, new Head Coach, Thad Reviello established a new attitude and the team finished the season 12-7 falling one game short of advancing to the regional tournament.
On a scale of 10, King George High school ranks a low .5 on the scale of best schools. Its policies for discipline are beyond ignorant. If you are late to school, you are given a warning. If you are late again in the same six weeks, you are given in school suspension (iss), so you are taken out of class and put in a room with ignorant children left to stare at the wall or sleep, in what sense does that make at all? I still am dumbfounded by this policy. So lets miss more class great. Although there is a loop hole around this, if you take 5 min to write a forged note saying you were sick, woke up late, ect. and sign it with a poorly drawn signature, they will take one look at it and let you go. So the kids who lie get by free but the kids who tell the truth get punished.. that makes sense. i guess... School lungh - I would rather eat jail food, its probably better and more nutritious anyways. Last year they served a piece of bread with cheese on it. hmmmm thats going to fill me up, for about 5 minutes. Teachers - most do not know how to teach to save their lives, and some are so rude the administrators dont care to deal with them, as a student, i was bullied by the entire spanish staff except one male teacher. This one teacher I have in mind is the rudest one of all, ive never met a teacher with a colder heart, and the KGHS staff does nothing, no matter how many complaints they get, nothing is ever done. This school is crap, just total crap, dont come here whatever you do, just dont, save yourself the aggravation and struggle, if this is your only opition, take homeschooling or online classes, if i could do it over again thats what i would do.
